Film donated by the Castenschiold Family. Digital video by Luis Flores.
The tradition of holding a Memorial Day parade through town and a ceremony at Memorial Park goes back decades. The Castenschiold family filmed the parades on 16 millimeter film. The generous donation of these films by the family allowed the historical society to have them digitized. This digital video shows highlights of the parades in different years about the late 1960s to the early 1970s.
Some things remain a constant: the school band, the fire department, and the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Some things were unique to one parade: horse drawn carriages including a surry with the fringe on top and the Harding Township School Twirlers.
Were you in any of the parades? Do you recognize yourself or anyone else in the parades? Please help us date these films.
Bill Smith is one of the band directors.
